What modernization meant for two spreadsheet workflows
Modernization pitches often promise a percentage saving. The engagements we publish did not start there. They started with a workbook that only one or two people could run safely — inspection comparison in one case, financial report assembly in the other.
NC Unity Plot took a multi-sheet inspection ritual and turned it into a repeatable run: import raw data, apply comparison rules, set ILI beside NDE, produce trends and unity plots. Efilling Accounts took hand-built report cycles and standardized chart-of-accounts handling so statements come from one workspace.
The shared work was the same kind of craft. Find the rules already living in cells and macros. Make them explicit. Keep the old process until the new one is checked. Automate the handoff that was being re-keyed, not the whole company on day one.
Neither story claims a magic ROI number. The written result is a workflow someone else can run without inheriting a fragile spreadsheet. The case studies hold scope and outcomes; this note is the practice that connected them.
